about who in the press contact REPOhistory

REPOhistory RepoHistory has created a street-stenciling project for Day Without Art in memory of our friend and colleague Ed Eisenberg. Over 60 times the letters ED were stenciled from lower Manhattan to SOHO to the East & West Village and Chelsea.

ED EISENBERG
April 4, 1951 - August 31, 1997

Edward Eisenberg brought an unflagging energy to the arena of public art activism that began with the artists collective, Political Art Documentation and Distribution (PAD/D), in 1980 and continued with his anti-gentrification street art on the Lower East Side in 1983 and 1984. In 1988 he conceived and directed GROUNDWORK, a city-wide street-stencil project protesting nuclear battleships on Staten Island.

From 1989 until a few weeks before his death, Ed served selflessly as a core member and treasurer of the artists collective, REPOhistory. Ed Eisenberg will be rememberd for his commitment to democratic, socially progressive art that set a standard few could match.

We the members of REPOhistory, PAD/D, and the cultural activists listed below extend our condolences to the Eisenberg family while offering this tribute to our friend and comrade, Ed Eisenberg.
